Hair Care Extension Guide
Whether you are a stylist or applying extensions by yourself at home, it is important to take care of your hair. I have created this amazing guide with tips and tricks on everything you need to know about how to take care of your extensions, from washing them to maintenance and styling.
The first step among any is washing. Important piece of advice: avoid over washing. Use dry shampoo or wash just the top and crown where there are no extensions. It is best to use sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. Make sure to brush the conditioner through the hair in shower with a wet brush for even distribution, and silky feeling hair!
Next up, Styling. It is super important to always use professional quality products, and use a heat protectant when styling. Use leave in conditioner and oil for the ends of extensions (but not the base for tape ins). Blow Dry in a downward motion and avoid heat directly on the bond/base of extensions.
Don’t forget to brush! Please make sure to never pull the extensions in any way, and hold at the base while brushing. Brush in between rows by lifting each row and brushing thoroughly. Also be sure to brush extensions throughout the day. When brushing, start at the ends and work your way up, all the way to the top, but do not brush the actual base of extensions.
Take care of your hair with maintenance. Come in for regular maintenance every 6-8 weeks, depending on the method. In the event that matting or knotting starts to form, reach out to your stylist immediately. Don’t go in the swimming pool or ocean (you can go in, just not your extensions); especially important rules as summer is just around the corner!
Last but not least, even extensions need their beauty sleep. It is advised to use a silk pillowcase or silk hair wrap. Also recommended to braid hair at night in loose french braids. Don’t go to bed with wet hair!
